Why PC Gaming is The Best Way to Play Video Games

The Large Pixel Collider in all its glory

Why PC Gaming is The Best Way to Play Video Games

For most of gaming history, people have been divided by what they use to play the games we love. This division is between the PC and the console. For this argument I will be comparing Next generation consoles such as the ps4 and the XBone to the vast amount of Personal Computers.

Comparing Cost

Both the PS4 and XBone cost 499usd  (EDIT XBone now $349) and Online services cost about $10-$20 per month. New flagship games for each system are almost always at $60. Depending on what is broken, fixing a console is difficult and usually results in having to buy a new one. Upgrades are practically non-existant and once your system is outdated, it's time to buy a new one.  The PC on the other hand is a little more tricky to value. For the average rig to have the same specs as a Next Gen console, the cost will be anywhere from $450 to $550. New Flagship games are usually $60 to $30. Online services (Steam) cost NOTHING, and do everything and more than the Next-Gen services (PSN/XBL) offer. Fixing a broken PC is a lot easier. Any broken part can be swapped out for another for a lot less than the total cost of the computer. (motherboard might not be so easy). Upgrades work also the same way, the right kind of PC can be upgraded in every way to avoid having to buy a new PC once yours becomes outdated. With the prices of the machine, Online Services, and average game purchases in mind a mid range $650 PC for 2 years will be less of hit to your wallet than a Console for the same time period.

The Customization of the PC

People very on how much they have to spend and what they want in a Gaming system. It doesn't matter if you you love Graphically Stunning games or 32bit indie puzzle games, if you buy a console you get a balance in the middle of cost and power. This leaves both type of people in the ground, some don't get enough power and the others end up paying for more than the need. This problem doesn't exist for the PC. The PC can be built depending on what a person needs and gives the consumer the option of switching their minds without having to buy a new system. Say you want an amazing Number-crunching powerhouse to give you 4k graphics, then go get what you need, only your wallet will stop you.

You Get More from a PC

When you have a Gaming PC, that's not all that it is. The PC will also function as a workplace, superior family entertainment system, superior internet browsing devise, and much more. The PC can do so many of these thing better than consoles and much more. Why buy a PC and a Gaming System when you could have both in one superior machine.

Multiple Input Options

Everyone like to have their own way to play their games. Some like the keyboard and mouse, dual-shock, xclaw, or any input method they find the most comfortable, and efficient. With a Console you have to stick with whatever they give you, you have no choice except for 3rd party controllers that must be as similar as possible to the original. The PC on the other hand can take almost every input method you can throw at it. Want to use your old ps2 controller? Why not! Love the mouse and keyboard? Sure! All of these options allow the consumer to have a choice on what works best for them.

Want to Play On The Couch?

A common argument supporting the console is the ability for the machine to be easily played in the living room. But the PC has many more tricks up it's HDMI cable. The PC can be streamed to your smart TV, streamed to a receiver to your TV, or even physically wired to your TV with a really long cable. Playing with any input method also comes in handy.

Mods in Games

A "Mod" is short for Modification, or any way a game is changed purposely for the enjoyment of the player. Mods are one of the many strands that keep the Gaming community alive. Say you want to replace all the dragons in your favourite game with pine cones, well with a PC you can do that. Mods can be helpful tools you use to get the most out of and have the most fun with your games. Mods can improve graphics, change played models, change sounds, add to gameplay, and just do whatever you want to just have fun of make the game easier.

 Conclusion

2K's Bioshock Infinite stunning Graphics for the PC
In conclusion, the PC is the best Way to play video games. It's less expensive for the consumer. The PC has greater customization to fit your individual needs. On PC you can play games the way you want to play them. The PC is for so much more than for gaming and gives you endless possibility that Consoles cant offer. The PC is by far, the Best Way to Play Video Games.

  1. This is a very sharp looking blog. I am not a big gamer, but you do make some very convincing points. Since I don't see myself ever going out to buy a gaming system, I might be inclined to try a PC game or two.

Minor note - change very to vary. Let me know if you don't know what I mean.

  7. Honestly, there isn't a "better" gaming system... It's all preference.

  8. You make some nice points. I have an Xbox which I use because the games I like to play are exclusive to this console and I prefer them anyways as I use my PC only as a tool for everything else I do.
